                What is Kung Fu?

Though Chinese martial arts actually predate written history, Kung Fu as a complete martial system -- according to Chinese legend -- finds its roots in the Shaolin Temple around the 5th Century AD. Monks there practiced specialized breathing techniques to help them withstand long periods of static meditation, as well as fighting techniques later called Shaolin Temple Boxing to defend themselves in their mountainous homes.

There are literally thousands of styles that fall under the classification of Kung Fu, though most share common characteristics. These fighting styles were predominantly developed mimicking the movements of animals. They also employ meditation techniques to train Qi, the body's natural internal energy, which in turn increases speed and power in fighting. It is only in recent decades, though, that these martial arts have reached students in the west, for Chinese Masters have traditionally held their knowledge dear, teaching only their most trusted students, if any, the secrets of their art.

                About Our Style

Hung Ga Kuen (Hung Family Fist) is one of the most popular martial art styles of Southern China. It is known for its devastating close-range hand techniques, delivered through the power of a strong-rooted stance. Utilizing the techniques of the 5 animals and 5 elements, this system combines both hard and soft power to offer a complete system for health and self-defense, as well as internal power and mental focus.
